WORKSHOPS

A B O U T

Internationally recognised fashion designer Jane Bowler and head of Knitwear Heather Orr, offer a range of exciting workshops for students and creatives.

Their passion for unconventional materials and experimental processes have led them to establish a series of courses which allow students to learn about fashion and textiles whilst also allowing for the unexpected. This unique workshop environment also allows the students to work along side the designers within the inspiring surroundings of Bowler’s East London design studio.

We offer a limited number of places per workshop on a first come first serve basis. Our small group sizes allow us to offer a large amount of contact time, ensuring maximum learning for every student.  Classes start from just £35.

Construction Lab student, Katrine Mikkelsen

"My friend and I came from Denmark to participate in Jane Bowlers Workshop. We were very excited to visit the Studio in Stratford and learn from the designer herself.

Heather taught us some knitting and crochet techniques, which actually became a main element in my menswear project that I did right after.

For me it was very inspiring to work with different textiles than I usually do and I learnt a lot by experimenting with different plastics and surfaces. I liked it so much that I applied for an internship, which I got. So here I am now – working at Jane Bowler Studio. An experience, that’s worth it."

Creative Workshop student, Danielle Tweedie

"I attended one of Jane Bowler’s creative workshops during my second year at university. At the time I had hit a creative block and this was just what I needed to feel inspired and motivated.

The workshop encouraged me to think outside the box and work outside of my comfort zone which for me was quite a big deal as I’m very particular when it comes to my own work processes.

Jane introduced us to innovative mixed media processes and ways of recycling/re-using household products that would otherwise be discarded of. Processes I learnt throughout the workshop informed much of my work throughout my second and third years of university and for that I am very grateful that I had the opportunity to take part in one of these inspiring and exciting workshops!"
